Chicago is a hub of culture with lots of things to do in any season. Although it can seem like it goes from summer to winter in the blink of an eye and fall weather only lasts a moment, Chicago’s fall activities go on far longer. Here are some of the top fall activities near downtown Chicago!

Fall Colors

With parks, ponds, the lakefront, and gardens galore, you don’t have to venture far from the city’s center to be surrounded by nature. If you want to appreciate the fall colors in their full glory, head to either Lincoln Park, with over 1200 acres of lush trees and walkways, or Morton Arboretum if you want to be transported to another place for the day.

Theatre Scene

The return to live theatre has been long awaited (and we couldn’t be happier that it’s back)! From Broadway in Chicago to the more avante garde performances you might see at Chicago’s smaller theatres, Chicago’s vibrant culture isn’t the same without live theatre! Performances of Macbeth at the Lyric Opera, American Mariachi at the Goodman Theatre, As You Like It at the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Paradise Square at Broadway in Chicago, and Frozen at the Cadillac Palace are all set to hit the stage.

Pumpkin Patches

For a fall-inspired day trip, there are plenty of festive pumpkin patches within a short driving distance from Chicago. Check out Goebbert’s Pumpkin Patch for apple picking, a maze, haunted house, rides, and of course, pumpkins!
