The Loop is in the heart of downtown Chicago, bounded by the “loop” the brown line tracks make around the city’s center. Although the Loop is first and foremost known for being the central business district, it is also a hub of culture!

The Loop is home to the Art Institute museum which is known for housing the largest collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art in the world outside the Louvre in addition to over 300,000 other works of art. With the Goodman, Chicago, and Cadillac Palace theatres, the Loop also has a vibrant live entertainment scene. The Joffrey Ballet, Broadway in Chicago, and a whole slew of live music and performances are primary draws of tourists and Chicagoans alike looking for great ways to spend time downtown soaking up Chicago’s culture. Landmarks like Buckingham Fountain, Pritzker Pavilion, and Willis (formerly the Sears) Tower can also be found in the Loop.

In the summertime, peruse the farmer’s market at Daley Plaza or check out Sundays on State, which is like a weekly block party with live music and entertainment on State Street. Lollapalooza is also hosted in the Loop. In the wintertime, ice skate at Maggie Daley Park or stroll down Michigan as you enjoy the holiday lights and festive Christkindl Market.

With all this and more, it’s incredible how much greenspace the Loop has to offer! From the vibrant Riverwalk to the expansive Millennium Park (home to Cloudgate, more commonly known as “The Bean”), there are plenty of spaces to get some fresh air and tranquility in the heart of the city.

The Loop also offers lots of conveniences. The Pedway system provides underground pedestrian access throughout the Loop, which is particularly useful on any windy, rainy, or chilly Chicago days. The Loop has an abundance of shops including Target, Walgreens, and Mariano’s supermarket just a few blocks away. All transit lines also converge in the Loop, making it an especially convenient place from which to access every part of the city. Blue line access will also allow you to access O’Hare International Airport in a flash while avoiding traffic.

For many people, living in the Loop allows them to walk to work in minutes all while living near so many things to do. Is no mystery why the Loop is such a desirable neighborhood!
